As a young organic farmer, founder of Munch Crunch Organics, Alasdair Smithson, learned to grow healthy organic food. But, he also learned that unless he had a direct relationship with a community of local customers he could not sustain the ecological health of the soil or the farm. The problem is that the growth of the organic industry is following the same pathway to mass consumerism, as the conventional chemical food industry, run by large-scale retailers with food being highly packaged and often traveling long distances.

Alasdair's mission from that point on was to create a food model that supports organic farmers by connecting them directly to local consumers. Munch Crunch Organics was created by him to support local organic farmers through a combination of hard won farming experience and internet technology. Farming experience told him that farmers need reliable and supportive consumers and internet technology allowed him to make that connection, forming a new model of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA).

In this model internet technology cuts out the middleman and this saving is passed on to the farmer as fairer and more consistent prices and to the consumer through fresher, healthier and more sustainable food at fair prices.

This is why community matters to organic agriculture and this is why Munch Crunch Organics is committed to facilitate that community in the Northern New South Wales/South East Queensland bioregion. It is why we will remain a local business for local people.
