MCO Newsletter September 2009 Issue #4

G'day and welcome to Summertime! It seems like we escaped winter without too much of a cold snap this year although it has been incredibly dry. In fact we've only had 21mm of rain at the farm since 9th July.

Luckily for us our dams are still about 2/3rds full from all the rain that we had earlier in the year. So that should keep us in water until our next big rain event. Whilst we do have a fair amount of water stored it does mean a lot of extra work for us on the farm having to irrigate every day... in fact I like to call it irritate as it is one of those jobs that wears thin after a while.

The warmer weather though has meant we have now been able to start planting some of our summer crops and during September we have been planting Sweetcorn, Basil and Zuchinnis along with our normal Salad and Asian greens. This week we'll also start planting Lebanese Cucumbers and Watermelons.

October is recognised by the Organic Federation of Australia as officially being the month to celebrate all things Organic. As a special offer we are giving all new customers $10 off their first home delivery order, in some cases that's a saving of almost 30%. So visit our website now to make the most of this fantastic deal: http://www.munchcrunchorganics.com.au

We are also planning on having another open day towards the end of October probably on Saturday 31st, which is also Halloween. Keep an eye on our website and our October newsletter for more info.

We've been doing our bit to support the local community and donated a large box of organic fruit and veg to the Steiner Spring Fair and will also be donating a box for entry into a raffle at the 'Homegrown' movie being screened at the Mullum Council Chambers, Monday 19th October 7pm - 8pm.

The movie is about a family who grow organic veges in the middle of a metropolis in the US. At Munch Crunch we understand the importance of growing organically and we are on a mission to save the planet by converting one farm at a time over to organic. So far this year we have helped 2 local farmers convert their production methods over to organic and are in the process of helping a 3rd farm obtain organic certification.

All these farms will in turn become suppliers to our organic home delivery scheme, which will ensure that we can keep our supply base as local as possible. This has many tangible benefits right through from the farmer to the customer as it means the farmer can receive a fair return for all their hard work and you the customer can get the freshest, highest quality produce at a fair price. So help us support you by supporting us and together we can make an organic difference.
