MCO Newsletter July/August 2009 Issue #3

G'day and welcome to issue number 3 of our newsletter. This should have been July's newsletter but because we have been so busy it is doubling up as July and August's newsletter all in one.

So what have we been up to since out last newsletter? Well, back in June we were just coming out of the wet season, although it seems like a long time ago now with all this sunshine and un-seasonal hot weather we've been having. We haven't had any rain at the farm for about 5 or 6 weeks now and things are getting pretty dry. Thankfully our dams are still pretty full but having to irrigate our crops everyday means a lot of extra work for us.

It's been great for our crops though and we are starting to have an abundance of produce to feed the local community with again. Our salad mix is particularly good quality at the moment and if you recently bought some from us you may have noticed the Nasturium flowers that Jack's been including in the bags. They don't just look pretty and add some colour to your salad but they are edible too!

Thanks to those of you that came to our farm open day in July, we were really lucky with the weather and had a good group of about 25 people turn up. We had a farm tour and then a discussion back at the barn about Munch Crunch Organics vision for a totally integrated food production and distribution model working within a 100-mile radius of the farm. For those of you that missed it, we are already planning another open day to coincide with Organic Fortnight in early October. Keep an eye on our website for further information: munchcrunchorganics.com.au

Our website is a great place to buy organic seasonal fruit and veg. You can order and change boxes as and when it suits you and you can even make your own custom box of organic goodies up. Over the next month we'll be adding bread, eggs, dairy and meat to the range of produce available. Overall our boxes work out around 20 - 25% cheaper than organic produce through the supermarkets and that doesn't even include our free delivery!

Munch Crunch Organics is committed to supporting the environment and Bec has given a few tips below after we received an email from one of our home delivery customers letting us know that she has been recycling her box liner.

Here are some ideas:

  • use your bag as a bin liner
  • take them to the supermarket bag bins for recycling
  • or, send them back to us and we'll recycle them for you

And of course, lets keep the boxes in circulation for as long as possible to reduce our eco-footprint on the planet. If you have any more great recycling tips we'd love to hear them, just send an email to info@munchcrunchorganics.com.au
